Understanding the EU CSRD: What It Is and How the EU Omnibus Bill Might Impact It

With large EU Public Interest Entities (PIEs) starting to publish their CSRD sustainability reports in 2025, just how CSRD impacts sustainability strategy and annual reporting is becoming clearer. While proposed legislative updates could mean that companies with less than 1000 employees and SMEs  may not need to publish CSRD-compliant reports, the lessons learned in 2024 from deeper corporate due diligence — including increased stakeholder engagement, double materiality assessments, gap analyses, and validation and verification of data — can provide a backdrop for success for other entities that will eventually need to comply with the regulation.
