SCS partnered with Starbucks to develop their Sustainable Dairy Program, which promotes environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and sustainable animal welfare practices within Starbucks’ dairy supply chain. The Starbucks Dairy Standard provides farmers with resources and guidelines to support high standards in social, environmental and animal care practices, helping to foster a more sustainable dairy industry. SCS is the official certification body to audit organizations against the Starbucks Dairy Standard,.
California Proposition 12 Certification
SCS is approved by the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) to certify agricultural operations and distribution centers under the new California Proposition 12 standards. As of January 1, 2024, all producers and distributors of eggs, pork, and veal covered products must have a valid Prop 12 Certificate of Compliance to sell in California markets. Proposition 12, known as the Farm Animal Confinement Initiative, sets housing standards for covered animals to ensure humane treatment that emphasizes freedom of movement, cage-free design, and minimum floor space requirements.
